Yo Contigo, Tú Conmigo

In taxis and buses in Lima, it is common for the radio station chosen to be a romantic music station. Radio Ritmo Romántica is the fifth most listened to in Lima and has been broadcast live for 34 years. In recent years, the love industry in Lima has enjoyed great commercial and social success.  

We can observe in the streets the rise of stores where products about love and tenderness have been increasing. Among the nostalgia for romantic love, you can imagine how the city of Lima moves in the longing to find that other pair.

Andrea's work is framed in the exacerbation of that romantic love, but with a different variable. A search for reappropriation of romance for two from a lesbian position. A conquest of the romantic imagination by a queer minority.

In this exhibition, which has 38 paintings where food, encounter and sharing are axes that dislocate the conception of romantic love, always framed by heteropatriarchy, towards the reappropriation of new images about a queer better half. 

"I with you, you with me" evokes a reciprocal, consensual love, a double self-portrait about a love story that was born with bread with pork rinds and that seeks to pay tribute to dissident affections. From the commercialization of images of popular foods in Lima, Andrea's painting portrays a timeline from the act of eating and consuming, creating her own love story.

A biographical look at affection, in which we can identify;  finding ourselves in images that reflect our own daily lives.
