ENG
Andrea Sifuentes Hernandez is a queer multidisciplinary Peruvian artist whose work critically explores identity construction and power dynamics in contemporary society. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Art History at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru PUCP and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art with a specialization in Printmaking from the same institution.
As a descendant of a migrant family from the Amazonas region and first generation born in Lima, Andrea uses her personal history as a starting point to question imposed cultural narratives and explore the intersection of identity, territory, and belonging. This critical perspective informs her multidisciplinary approach, which combines digital media, painting, drawing, installation, photography, video, and textile art.
Her artistic practice centers on the critical exploration and appropriation of personal and public archives, reconfiguring images and narratives to dismantle hegemonic discourses. Through these visual languages, she investigates the boundaries between individuality and collectivity within the context of consumer culture, revealing how mass communication devices reproduce mechanisms of symbolic violence.
In 2021, she was recognized with the PUCP Critique Prize, earning first place for her project T ome: Reconfiguring the newspaper "El Trome" from a gender perspective. This achievement demonstrates her ability to articulate contemporary reflections, generating critical discourses through innovative visual resources.
Andrea’s work invites the viewer to confront the power structures that shape everyday life and to critically reconsider the cultural narratives that configure our experiences and identities.
